How to buy cherries

The most important thing to look at when buying cherries is the stem. The freshest cherries have green stems that are firmly attached. A dry stem generally means that it has been awhile since the cherry was picked and that it will not be the freshest. Beyond the stem, look for plump, firm cherries.

Avoid cherries with brown spots as this suggests the cherry is bruised. Also avoid cherries that are soft as this suggests that the the cherries are overripe.

Fresh cherries should be stored in a refrigerator in plastic bags that contain a small amount of fresh water. Unfortunately, the taste and texture of cherries are ruined if the cherries are frozen, so eat los when you can!
