We finished picking today!!! We picked nearly 600 ton at the home place, just over 280 ton at Davis, and just over 225 ton at the lease places. With a total of just over 1100 ton, it was a light year, but we expect the prices to be high enough to more than make up the difference! We'll start apple harvest in about a month.

June 29, 2010

Finished picking at the Migaki place. We picked Bings and Vans for fresh (i.e. to be sold in the grocery store) and Rainiers for brine (i.e to be made into Marashino cherries). Migaki's dog is going to be fine after being hit by a forklift.

June 28, 2010

We continued picking Bings at the Migaki place. We picked Early Robbins at the Davis place. Working with a group of researchers from Oregon State University, we collected data related to a variety of different pruning styles. Unfortunately, the Early Robbins are not red enough, so we have to wait a couple of days before picking any more of them.
